Material & Method: Crafting Héloïse

Why It Matters

Each Héloïse piece represents the power of creating intimate, thoughtful work even in the most commercial of environments.

Creative Origins

Founded 2019 in a small apartment kitchen in Orlando's tourist corridor—finding authenticity in an unexpected place.

Material Mastery

Innovative polymer clay and sculptural techniques.

Technical Development

A decade of material exploration and refinement.

Artistic Process

From material preparation to final flourish.

In my garage studio, I hold up a piece of polymer clay, examining its surface with the kind of attention that only comes from years of dedicated practice. Every piece tells a story—the way it catches the light, the subtle variations in texture—these aren’t accidents. They result from countless hours of exploration and refinement, a journey that began as an escape from digital burnout.

My path to creating Héloïse pieces started in 2019 in an apartment kitchen along International Drive, Orlando’s sprawling tourist corridor. After years of intense screen time and digital design work, my eyes and mind craved something different—something tangible. Working with clay became my refuge, a way to rest my eyes and reconnect with physical creation. What began as a necessary break from digital overwhelm evolved into a passionate pursuit of craftsmanship.

Today, my garage studio, which has grown alongside this practice, resembles both an artist’s workshop and a scientific laboratory—a space where creativity meets precision and where each piece begins its journey from raw material to wearable art. The methodical nature of material preparation and the focus required for each piece provide a meaningful contrast to the rapid pace of digital work.
People often ask why I spend so much time on each piece.

The answer lies in my belief that every detail matters when you’re creating something that exists at the intersection of art and jewelry. The way a clasp feels when it closes, how a piece sits against the skin—these subtle elements define not just the piece itself, but the entire experience of wearing it.

Creating each Héloïse piece involves a complex dance between different materials and techniques. My workbench tells the story of this process—it is covered with careful notes, material samples, and works in progress. Innovation, I’ve learned, isn’t just about creating something new. It’s about creating something that resonates and feels both fresh and timeless.

My current explorations involve pioneering new techniques for combining polymer clay with precious metals, a process that took months to perfect. I had to understand how different materials respond to temperature, pressure, and time. Each variable affects the final result; sometimes, a simple piece represents hundreds of hours of development.

The attention to detail in my process might seem excessive to some, but it’s fundamental to my philosophy. Each piece is examined at multiple stages of creation, considering not just the obvious elements but also how the piece will wear over time, how it will move with the wearer, and how it will adapt to different lights and settings.

My Heloise days typically begin early. The first hour is dedicated to material preparation, a crucial step that ensures optimal working properties. If I rush the foundation, everything that follows is compromised.
Surface treatments come next, a process I’ve been refining for years. Each texture tells a different story, and subtle variations in technique can dramatically change a piece’s character. I’m not just creating jewelry; I’m creating conversations and moments of connection between the wearer and their sense of presence.

Color development has become a particular passion of mine—understanding how it responds to light, temperature, and adjacent materials. These interactions are crucial to creating pieces that maintain their beauty over time. My workstation reflects this dedication to understanding materials. It is filled with carefully labeled experiments and detailed notes from years of exploration. Each discovery leads to new possibilities and ways to push the boundaries of what’s possible in contemporary jewelry design.

As each day in the studio draws to a close, I often reflect on upcoming collections and new directions to explore. What excites me most about this work is how it contributes to the evolution of jewelry making—taking traditional craftsmanship into new territories while maintaining the soul of handmade creation.

Every Héloïse piece carries my dedication to craftsmanship, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence. This work represents my commitment to creating beautiful objects and advancing the art of jewelry-making itself. So, as the sun sets and the studio quiets, the evidence of the day’s work remains: sketches of future designs, materials in various stages of transformation, and completed pieces ready to begin their lives in the world. Each item carries my accumulated knowledge and passion, a testament to the enduring value of human craftsmanship.

The story of Héloïse is my story—one of continuous exploration, dedication to craft, and the joy of creating pieces that become part of others’ narratives. It’s a journey that continues to evolve, shaped by each discovery and every piece that leaves the studio.
